Additional Import Documentation
A Certificate of Origin is needed for perishable products like canned products, products in cartons or plastics, grains, food, etc.
A Phytosanitary Certificate is needed for perishable products like canned products, products in cartons or plastics, grains, food, etc.
Goods under IATA Special Provisions A67 require a MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet).

It is not required for all, however shipments can be held by local authority in United Arab Emirates after screening due to lack of MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) or NON DG (Dangerous Goods) declaration letter from the shipper resulting to misconnections and impacting end-to-end service.

It would be advisable for all shipments originating, transiting and terminating for UAE to have MSDS or NON DG declaration from shipper enclosed in the shipment and copies to be uploaded in IDIS.

Additional Export Documentation
Electronic Export Information (EEI), formally known as a Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) is a U.S. Government process for collecting export trade statistics and for export enforcement. The information is filed in the Automated Export System (AES) and all filings must be made electronically. A paper form is no longer acceptable.

Shipments which originate in the U.S. require an EEI filing in AES when the value of a Schedule B (or HTS) commodity is over US$2500.00. Shipments requiring a license or license exemption, such as State Department, Commerce Department or DEA, require an AES Filing regardless of the value.

Shippers filing directly with the Census Bureau must supply the AES Internal Transaction Number (ITN) at the time of pickup by UPS. The ITN should be placed on the thermal label, produced in World Ship or on the invoice as close to the total value as possible. UPS can file the AES information on behalf of the shipper for a $US10.00 fee. The shipper must supply all necessary information for the filing, including their EIN number, License/License Exemption/License Exception and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN). If the consignee is a company, they must be registered in Nicaragua´s Customs as importers.

Additional Clearance Information
The contractor performs only when shipments are loaded with Free Domicile (F/D) Service. The shipper pays all shipping charges, duty and taxes.

When the shipments are loaded with Pre Paid (PP), the shipper pays all shipping charges and the consignee pays duty and taxes. The consignee receives documents of retention to clear in customs.

When the shipments are loaded with Freight Collect (F/C), the consignee pays all shipping charges to the contractor, and the duties and taxes the consignee has the election of paying for the service that the contractor offers, or with its own custom agency by preference. When the shipment (document or non document) arrives to Nicaragua as F/C, the consignee receives an invoice to pay for the shipping charge, and after he pays, the package is delivered.

For dutiable shipments, the consignee will need to contact Customs directly or give the UPS representative a notarized letter, so that the UPS representative can clear the shipments on behalf of the consignee. No brokerage fees are involved, unless the consignee chooses to use a third-party broker.
In the case of shipping Free Domicile, the time in which completing the formalities for customs clearance is a maximum of 3 to 5 working days (Monday to Friday), provided no inconvenience in the steps to be performed, such as permits, Customs inspections, special or as a result of random systems, among other procedures like wrong invoice related to unreal price like US$1.00 one machine replacement, or wrong description and country or territory origin of fabric.
UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. Box address. All packages require a consignee's contact name and complete street address including apartment, suite or unit number. The consignee's telephone number is mandatory.
Areas Served
Service is provided to and from every address in the country or territory.

All import shipments, are required to include an actual cellular or phone number, right and complete address of the shipper and consignee. Nicaragua does not have an official numeration system for their streets and avenues, or postal codes. The final address is given from a particular point of reference within the area. Therefore, in many cases, it is very difficult to locate the delivery point, resulting in service failures. All packages require a consignee's contact name and complete street address including apartment, suite or unit number if applicable. The consignee's telephone number should be provided if known. The UPS contractor delivers documents and non-dutiable non-documents door-to-door only in Managua. For the rest of the country including extended areas like Masaya, Granada, Esteli, Leon, etc., the contractor has subcontracted a transport company (Cargo Trans) that makes the delivery Door to Door. A complete address and telephone number is necessary and must be included in the consignment. When it receives a non-document since an eraser or pencil, it must pay duties and taxes to free from customs, and then it can deliver to the customer, who selects the customs agency to get the service.

UPS cannot deliver to a P.O. Box address. All packages require a consignee's contact name and complete street address including apartment, suite or unit number. The consignee's telephone number is mandatory.

For non-document shipments into Nicaragua, customs retains every package and must be inspected. Duties and taxes must be paid regardless of the value of the merchandise. For example, even if the Commercial Invoice has a value of $1.00 as minimum. This is according to law in Nicaragua, and is enforced by their Customs agency. In addition to a detailed description of each item, the shipper needs to write additional comments of "gift shipment" on the invoice as well as in the Special Instructions box on the UPS Waybill to ensure a proper assessment of duties and taxes. On the invoice, it must describe the real quantity and description of the merchandise that has been sent because customs takes one day to confirm the merchandise in the package and the description on the invoice are correct and accurate.

Invoice Requirements
Non-document shipments to Nicaragua must include 1 original and 2 copies of a commercial invoice. Manual and Computer-generated invoices will not be accepted.

Original invoices on company letterhead are required by law and avoid Customs delays. All other types of invoices could cause shipments to be delayed.

Wood or wood products covered by ISPM 15 include items such as packing cases, boxes, crates, drums or similar packing, pallets, box pallets and other load boards, pallet collars and skids, but exclude such processed woods as orientated strand board, particle board, plywood or veneer, created using glue, heat and pressure or a combinations thereof, and, raw wood which is 6mm or less thick.
