Import Restrictions

Senders should determine import restrictions from the country's authorities before posting:

  • chicken's eggs
  • coins and similar pieces of copper, bronze or nickel
  • meat and meat products
  • pharmaceuticals.

Items like medicines, narcotics, chemicals, explosives and pyrotechnics, are subject to licensing controls. Pharmaceuticals must be registered with the Inspectorate of Health and Environment in order to be imported into the Aruban market or into free trade zones. In addition, licensing at customs clearance is required for certain goods. The Department of Economic Affairs, Commerce and Industry is in charge with the issuing of import licenses.

When importing meat or meat related products, the customs declaration, invoice, health certificate, and bill of lading must be presented to the Veterinary Service, in order to obtain an import license. Meat and meat products may only be imported from approved slaughterhouses in approved countries. Declaration must be made in advance by the Veterinary Service. There is a 5% import fee on the customs value of meat.

Certain live animals may not be imported, depending on the country of origin.

Prohibited Items

In addition to items considered non-mailable matter, the following are prohibited:

  • log and timber products from Liberia  
  • pesticides
  • plants / soil
  • precursors and essential chemicals
  • publications that infringe authors' rights
  • telecommunication equipment
  • weapons.

Documentation Required

Information regarding Customs can be found in "Customs Requirements" of the Canada Postal Guide.

The following documents are required:

1) Bill of Lading/Airway Bill

2) Commercial Invoice

3) Certificate of Origin

4) Accompanying health certificates.

In addition, all commercial parcels mailed to Aruba must be accompanied by an invoice.
